Girl Scout City Planning Patch & Curriculum

Inspiring Future Difference Makers.

YEP! is proud to introduce the Girl Scout City Planning Patch & Curriculum—an exciting new program designed to inspire girls to explore the world of urban planning. Through hands-on activities, real-world problem-solving, and creative design challenges, Girl Scouts will learn how cities are shaped and how they can play a role in building inclusive, sustainable communities. This custom curriculum encourages leadership, critical thinking, and civic engagement—earning scouts a unique patch that celebrates their role as future city shapers.

Girl Scout City Planning Patch & Curriculum

This program introduces participants to the fascinating world of city planning while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and community engagement. Through interactive activities, games, and hands-on projects, you will explore various aspects of city planning, from transportation and infrastructure to green spaces and community design. Stations include:

  • City Foundations. Build a city with buildings, roads, parks, etc using blocks, cardboard, tape, etc and other design elements.

  • Sustainable Cities. Add sustainable components to building models and test your STEM skills.

  • Transportation & Mobility. Explore different modes of transportation (cars, buses, bikes, walking, etc) traffic signs and signals, creating a transportation system for a mini-city.

  • Community Engagement. Share your goals and aspirations for your community. Your comments will be shared with local city planners to inform their work!

The curriculum is available for following Girl Scout Troops:

  • City Planner Adventures: Daisy Girl Scouts - Grades K-1 & Brownie Girl Scouts - Grades 2-3

  • Urban Planning Explorers: Junior Girl Scouts - Grades 4-5 & Cadette Girl Scouts - Grades 6-8

"I didn’t know what city planning was before this, but now I see it everywhere! At the YEP! event, we got to design our own neighborhoods, think about parks and housing, and even talk about how to make cities safer and more fun for kids like me. Earning the City Planning patch made me feel like my ideas matter. Now I want to help make my city better when I grow up!"
Amara, Girl Scout Cadette
